Matt recently attended the Housing Futures Forum at the National Gallery Victoria in Melbourne. The event hosted a series of lectures and conversations about new trajectories in residential architecture. Highlights included presentations by Kerstin Thompson and Philip Thalis.
Beyond the inevitable project question of "How many toilets do you need?", deeper motivations for quality residential architecture were explored. The notion of the house as a balance of both private retreat and civic contribution was discussed together with the need for housing as part of the broader built environment to facilitate a greater sense of community.
It is also worth noting there were a lot of people wearing black.
